Munich Marathon
42.195 KM THROUGH THE BAVARIAN CAPITAL, LEGENDARY FROM START TO FINISH. The GENERALI MUNICH MARATHON is one of the BIG FOUR marathon events in Germany and an international highlight – awarded with the elite label of WORLD ATHLETICS.
The MARATHON START and FINISH are located in the Munich Olympic Stadium, just as at the Olympic Games in 1972. The course in between takes the runners to numerous sights and unique places in Munich. After the Olympic Park, the race follows Leopoldstrasse with the Siegestor and continues via Königsplatz to the Pinakothek museums and on to the English Garden. Past the Chinese Tower, the Art Nouveau villas line the road up into the east of Munich before the race passes the Gasteig and over the Isar Bridge back into the center. With the Viktualienmarkt and Marienplatz, the runners pass what are probably Munich’s most famous squares before continuing past the Bavarian State Opera and the Munich Residenz to Odeonsplatz. The end via the Theatinerkirche and Ludwigstraße is just as spectacular as the finish in the Olympic Stadium: in the large Marathon Gate, the runners are immersed in a scenery of fog, music, applause and loud cheers. The home stretch of the Olympic Stadium is the final meters of the GMM 2023. G’schafft! That’s what they say in Bavaria.
The course of the GENERALI MUNICH MARATHON is varied, beautiful and a real challenge. In 2022, new course records were set on the challenging course at the 36th GENERALI MUNICH MARATHON. Agnes Keino leads the women’s victory list in Munich with a PB of 2:23:26 hours. Philimon Kupchumba from Kenya celebrated at his MARATHON debut a new course record in Munich with 2:07:28 hours.
Incredible achievements and motivation to surpass yourself. The 37th edition of the GENERALI MUNICH MARATHON will start on 08 October 2023
