Summer Hike 2015

Dublin Frontrunners Hike 2015 with Out and About

Out and About hiking group is pleased to organise a hike Dublin Frontrunners on Sunday, 13 September 2015. Hike leaders Grant and Chris will guide a trail walk in the Wicklow Mountains. The walk will give runners an active break from marathon training and races, and a chance to enjoy some nature and meet members of Out and About. It promises to be a fun and sociable day.

hike1Hike Description This year the hike will start from Ballinastoe Woods in the centre of the Wicklow Mountains – on the slopes of Djouce mountain. This area offers many great forest trails as well as access to open mountain trails, including one of the most scenic sections of the Wicklow Way. We’ll choose the exact route on the day depending on the conditions. After the hike we’ll stop at a local pub before returning to the city.

What you need to bring  No specialised gear is required for this walk. If you have hiking boots bring them, but we have specifically chosen a route that does not require boots, so if you don’t have hiking boots or fell runners, your old runners will be fine for this hike. However, as this walk is in a remote area and weather in the mountains is often very changeable, please bring the following:

  • Rain jacket
  • Warm layer (fleece or jumper)
  • 1.5 litres of water
  • Packed lunch
  • Change of clothes , which you can leave in the car

Please don’t wear jeans. If there is rain it will make the hike very uncomfortable and you’ll get very cold. We advise you not to leave any valuables in your car and put your change of clothes bag into the boot.

hike2

Getting there  We encourage you to carpool as parking is limited. Furthermore carpooling is sociable and better for the environment. For carpooling we will meet in the city centre, outside the gates of the National Concert Hall, Earlsfort Terrace, Dublin 2 at 10:00. Parking is free at this location on Sundays so extra cars can be left here. Alternatively you can meet us at the hike start at 10:45.

Directions from the National Concert: First drive to Adelaide Road than then turn right at Leeson Street (N11). Follow the N11/M11 south. After passing Bray, turn at the flyover onto the R755. Follow signs for Glendalough/Roundwood. Follow this road for approximately 10km until you come to a cross roads. Here take a right turn onto L5036, follow this to the end (1.5km) you will come to a T-Junction. Turn left here to arrive at Ballinastoe Woords after about 100m.

The hike start is here:

DFR Theatre Night

Hello all,
As part of the Gay Theatre Festival we are planning a night out on Saturday 16 May. There is a double bill in the Players Theatre in Trinity College, The Astonished Heart by Noel Coward @ 19:30 followed by St. Joan @ 21:00. We will be meeting up in the Front Lounge afterwards, around 22:00 to discuss the merits of both plays in great detail. If you are interested in coming along please book your tickets.
Hopefully see you on the night.

THE ASTONISHED HEART

BEHIND THE MOON PRODUCTIONS, IRELAND
Gay playwright Noel Coward when asked why he didn’t ‘come out’ replied: ‘I didn’t want to offend other people’s prejudices’. He wrote sexually ambiguous plays. ‘The Astonished Heart’ stars a tormented psychiatrist, his wife, her friend in a toxic love affair that splinters their very existence. A raw and emotional journey through the landscape of repressed love and shattered illusions.

Behind the Moon Productions reveals the now eighty year old play, reclaiming Coward’s queer sensibilities in a stripped down, visually engaging and theatrically inventive presentation.

DURATION: 75mins
Contains scenes of a sexual nature.

Written by Noel Coward | Directed by Geoff O’Keeffe

ST. JOAN

PASCAL THEATRE COMPANY/MANYTRACKS/ADD2PRODUCTIONS
Three women are Joan. All trying to save history from itself. This is a highly physical, darkly funny and entrancing work of theatre.

An exhilarating delve into the heady themes of national identity, purity of race, women as victims and makers of history asks – ‘would Joan the girl fighter, with the voices of God in her head, really boot out the foreigners today’? She challenges the view that only a dead saint is a useful saint and dreams of going back in time to stop history’s atrocities. Can she overturn its course? Can she save one life?

DURATION: 55mins
Written by Julia Pascal | Directed by Katrin Hilbe

Fartlek Summer 2015

Patricia has put together a Fartlek program kicking off this Monday 13th, here’s the details.

Farklek 2015 Kick OffAs you all know Fartlek will start on the 13th of April @19:00 and we meet at the Magazine fort car park.

AnneMarie, Mick and Steve are helping me with the sessions, but if anyone is interested to help out, let me know.

Just something to think of when you join us Monday:

  • Try to bring a stopwatch or your running watch to record your lap times. This is to ensure you get the most out of the sessions.
  • Mainly it will be off road but ensure you wear clothing that is visible, I guess most of us do but just in case.
  • Bring your water bottle.
  • Be on time

You must be a registered member to take part in Fartlek.

See you next week!!!

Patricia
